Things That Inspire : Gordon "beeeeeeep" Ramsay

If you live in America odds are you know Gordon Ramsay as "that yelling, cursing blonde British guy who throws flaming pans" on the show "Hell's Kitchen".  (Actually he's from Scotland)  "But wait", you're thinking, "isn't this an Art Illustration Photography blog? Why is Gordon Ramsay here?"  Because he can be very inspiring...believe it or not.  I've been hooked on his show "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares", shown daily, except Sundays, on BBC America.  On "Nightmares" once you get past the "beeeeep" every 10 seconds and the initial yelling he actually DOES help these restaurants with his ideas for changing things up and attracting more customers.  Something anyone in business for themselves will appreciate-his tips go far beyond just running a restaurant.  They can apply to any business really. Catch one of these episodes : Piccolo Teatro (THE definitive episode of Nightmares), The Fenwick Arms or The Sandgate Hotel.

Here are a few Gordon Ramsay quotes...

"Running your own business is scary. That’s where you get the adrenaline from. It’s not like going to work for a boss every day: you are the boss and you have to maintain standards. That’s an amazing challenge not once a week or once a month but each and every day that business is open."

"There's just as much to be learned from a bad experience as there is from a good one. We come back and talk about it, and we look at the negatives."

"I get scared every day, twice a day – before lunch and before dinner. Customers vote with their feet. They don’t ring you up and say, ‘By the way, I had a mediocre lunch. I’m not coming back.’ They just don’t come back… They come back for that magic, that excitement, that level of perfection, and that's not easy to achieve. It's a fight to get there."

"There are two things, the level of consistency and not becoming static. You can't be good on a Thursday, and then not bad on a Friday."
