James Rosenquist’s house and studio at Aripeka, Florida were destroyed by a brush fire in April. Several paintings were lost, including 15 new canvases for his upcoming New York show at the Acquavella Galleries. He also lamented the loss of a mural commissioned by the government of France that measured 133 feet high by 24 feet wide.
The artist reportedly seemed optimistic that the Autumn show will still go on. "First, we're going to figure out how to put the archive back together," he said. "Next, getting things ready so my men can start building stretchers. In another month, get back to working on ideas for the show."
